Located near the village of Zovuni, this two-story villa is designed as a compact private residence with extended outdoor programming. The client requested a design that blends Armenian materials with Italian spatial and stylistic references, resulting in a home that merges local grounding with Mediterranean openness.

The architectural concept balances two layers:

• A contained, efficient residential volume for daily life
• An expansive, event-oriented exterior zone anchored by a summer kitchen, open-air terrace, and pool

The villa is organized on two floors, with a clear functional separation between private and social areas. The building volume is compact, allowing the outdoor areas to take on greater prominence in the project’s spatial identity.

The terrace extends along the length of a rectangular pool, designed to accommodate large gatherings and seasonal events. The adjacent landscape is structured to support flexibility: a grass area for placing long dining tables and a dedicated stage zone for live music performances — positioned at the head of the pool and supported by lightweight metal structures designed for temporary or modular installations.

To the rear, the backyard is reserved as a quiet family zone, featuring a firepit, seating cluster, and selective greenery. This duality — public-facing celebration in front, intimate retreat in back — defines the spatial logic of the site.

Material selection is central to the design. Locally sourced tuff stone, natural plaster, and terracotta elements establish the Armenian material identity, while arches, tiled surfaces, and spatial openness reference Italian villa typologies. The dialogue between these traditions is handled with restraint, allowing both voices to remain legible without pastiche.

Zovuni Villa is a study in how contemporary residential architecture can serve both personal and collective functions — embedding cultural references within a framework of modern comfort, outdoor living, and event-scale flexibility.
