Situated in the historic center of Yerevan, the Kantar Hotel occupies the upper floors of a residential building near the site of the 18th-century Ghantar Market, a bustling historic trading hub that inspired the entire project’s concept.
Embracing the vibrant legacy of the Ghantar Market, the interior design reinterprets its dynamic spirit through a co-living hotel model — combining hostel-style rooms, classic hotel rooms, and apartments under one roof. This diversity creates a welcoming environment for travelers from all walks of life, encouraging connection and cultural exchange.
A key intervention was the reconfiguration of the first-floor layout. The original plan segmented the common spaces into small, isolated rooms, limiting guest interaction. To address this, we introduced an open-plan concept with a central shared kitchen, surrounded by a breakfast area and a flexible common room that doubles as a quiet study space. Glass partitions provide subtle division without sacrificing openness or light, fostering both socializing and privacy as needed.
Adding to the sense of place, a small shop within the hotel showcases works by local Armenian artists, supporting the creative community and offering guests authentic cultural souvenirs. Armenian heritage also comes to life in textile designs, with pillow prints inspired by the market motifs of renowned painters like Martiros Saryan, bringing color and narrative into the interiors.
Through thoughtful spatial restructuring and cultural storytelling, Kantar Hotel invites guests into a living, breathing reflection of Yerevan’s rich history and contemporary vibrancy.
